Selling Hair Safely: Payment, Cutting and Shipping

Agree the sale clearly, check payment through the provider itself, and protect the bundle before posting it.

The important part of selling hair is not only finding an offer. It is agreeing exactly what will happen between that offer and the buyer receiving the bundle. Hair cannot be put back after a cut, so take time to settle the details before an appointment or dispatch. Browse BuyAndSellHair to explore the marketplace and its selling guides.

Keep your conversation in your BuyAndSellHair account inbox. A clear record helps both people refer back to the same agreement, without sharing an email address just to discuss an advert.

Write down the complete agreement

Confirm the advert, hair being sold, usable length, treatment history and whether it is already cut. Agree the price and currency, delivery cost, destination and who will handle any applicable import charges. Discuss securing, washing and cutting requirements before either party makes assumptions.

Set a realistic cutting and dispatch date. Explain what happens if the appointment changes or a final measurement differs. If a buyer's request would leave you with a hairstyle you do not want, stop and resolve it before the cut; a large offer is not a reason to ignore your own boundaries.

Check payment in the provider's own account

Open your payment provider directly, using its app or a known website address. Check the transaction and any action required there. An email, screenshot or message saying “payment sent” is not a substitute for that record. Do not assume pending funds are ready simply because the buyer wants an immediate dispatch.

PayPal's scam guidance explains common payment scams. Be cautious if someone asks you to pay a separate fee to release money, refund an unexplained overpayment or arrange payment to an unfamiliar courier. Pause and verify through the provider independently.

Use a payment method appropriate for a purchase. Check the applicable buyer and seller protection terms, including transaction eligibility and evidence requirements. Protection is conditional, not a guarantee that any payment method will make a sale risk-free. The buyer's checklist covers the same agreement from the buyer's side.

Keep the cut bundle together

Ask your hairdresser how to carry out the agreed cut and preserve the bundle. Secure the hair before cutting, and keep the cut end identifiable. Do not combine loose strands from different places if the buyer expects one intact ponytail. Avoid changing treatments or colour after the agreement without discussing it.

Take a clear photograph of the secured bundle before packing. If you have agreed a measured cut weight or length, record it accurately. This is a useful record of what was prepared, rather than a replacement for the sale agreement.

Pack for the actual journey

Make sure the hair is dry before enclosing it. Keep the bundle secured, protect it from moisture and use outer packaging that will not crush or expose it in transit. Ask the buyer about any specific preparation needed for their project rather than adding products or scents without discussion.

Check the address carefully and choose a delivery service you both understand. Confirm tracking, expected timing and compensation conditions with the carrier; “tracked” is not a promise that every type of loss is covered. Keep the posting receipt, tracking reference and agreed dispatch information.

Check international rules before promising delivery

Rules and service availability depend on the destination. Before agreeing overseas shipping, check the carrier's current restrictions and customs instructions for the contents you intend to send. USPS's international preparation guide is a useful starting point for US senders. Do not mark a sold item as a gift to avoid a customs requirement.

Finish with a clear record

Send the agreed dispatch update through your conversation and retain the relevant records. Buyers should check the received bundle against the agreement before altering it, and raise a problem promptly if something is wrong. If a payment dispute arises, use the provider's process and check its deadlines.
