For the second interview on our site, we we’re contacted by Laura who wanted to share her experience with hair selling – thanks Laura!

Laura is 28 years old and from the US. She sold 22 inches of her virgin hair for $450. Here’s what she had to say:

Start Of Interview

Hey, Laura. So what made you sell your hair?

I was planning on having my hair cut that I had been growing for years. I kept it in really good condition and I thought it would be such a waste to just bin it.  I searched the net for ‘sell hair’ and was glad to discover BuyandSellHair.com

There are a few different options for people to sell hair – what made you list on our site?

It seemed like the most legitimate place. I saw that the site had been mentioned on the news [2] so that gave it some real credibility. I also loved the way your experience page [3] gives real user reviews and you hadn’t hidden away any negative reviews. Finally, I read in a few places that it’s better to sell hair on a dedicated hair marketplace as opposed to a general classifieds site as as hair buyers on a dedicated site truly understand the value of hair.

All in all, it ticked every box and I thought if my hair is going to sell anywhere, it would sell here.

How long did it take you to find a buyer and did you have any unscrupulous offers?

It took four weeks. I had a few people contact me before that but they didn’t follow through. I only got one email, which was obviously a scam. Asking to pay with a ‘money order’ and inappropriately mentioning a sick sister in hospital was enough to give it away – that’s where your scams page [4] really helped.

The buyer that I went with offered offered slightly under my asking price and I went with it. I thought that whatever I make on my hair is a bonus as I was going to throw it away anyway! $450 is a nice bonus 🙂

How did you feel when you were getting your haircut?

Nervous! I was on the brink of pulling out but then I reminded myself that it’s good to do things that do push you past your comfort zone now and again.

What do you think of your new look?

Once the hair was cut I wasn’t too sure of my new look whilst at the hairdressers. However, once I got home and analyzed it in my own time I really started to like it. The more time that went on, the more I liked it – now I can confidently say that I love my new short hairdo. It sounds cheesy but I feel like a new person!

What is your number 1 tip for healthy hair?

Minimize blow-drying and use a hair mask now and again. Whenever my hair was feeling weak and limp I used a hair mask and that helped give it some life.

What makes for a bad hair day?

The day I wash my hair it turns into a bit of a fur ball. It looks best the day after which means some serious hair wash planning.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

The first is to use clear pictures when creating your ad. All too many people use fuzzy images. The second is to be open to offers – some people seem to have high, fixed prices. The type of hair seems to greatly influence how much you get per inch.

Thanks again for your time, Laura – we hope that you continue to love your new hairdo.

End of interview.
