Where Can I Get Crazy Health & Beauty Deals?

| Opportunities | August 18, 2011

We all love a great deal and offer – it makes spending money much more satisfying knowing that you got the best bang for your buck. This desire to get crazy deals has sparked the growth of Groupon which has rapidly grown into a mammoth ‘group deals’ site that was recently valued up to $25 billion dollars; that’s an amount beyond my comprehension!

Groupon features a daily deal on the stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in a variety of cities across the world. Just so you get an idea of its scale, it was recently featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and named the #1 Hottest Website for 2010 by Fox Business News! Pretty cool stuff.

So anyway, what can Groupon do for you? I recently registered as they kept popping up in the Google sponsored results for terms related to ‘coupons’, ‘discounts’ and even general shopping related searches. The ad offered something like 50% off a skydive (what i was looking to book at that point) so I apprehensively clicked thinking it was too good to be true. The site promoted me to register before I could get any more info and I was then told the deal was no longer available – a shame but as expected.

I carried on my search through Google and thought no more. However, every day since they harvested my email I’ve been getting their ‘daily deal’ emails. Following my initial disappointment, this annoyed me but I gave them a chance and looked through what was on offer and it was surprisingly useful.

Groupon automatically send you the latest deals in your area so I was getting deals for London and there seeemed to be a whole load of health and beauty offers. Here’s a few examples:

health and beauty offers

91% off laser hair removal treatments?! 76% off a Brazilian blow dry plus cut and finish?! How on earth are these reputable suppliers able to offer such discounts? Well, here’s how Groupon works: Groupon negotiates huge discounts—usually 50-90% off—with popular businesses and then sends these out to its subscribers (like me). The discount for the product or service in your city can only be claimed if a certain number of people purchase the discount. This makes it a win-win so you get the discount and the store gets enough customers to make it worthwhile – a pretty nice business model.

I am yet to try a Group deal – I guess I’m waiting for something truly awesome to come along. My concluding thoughts: it’s definitely worth signing up to. A group deal may come along for something you were going to buy anyway or it can be used an excuse to treat yourself or try a new product or service. And it’s not every day that you get 50%+ discounts!
